FAQ
Questions you're probably asking yourself
Does the full donation amount reach the charities?

The entire donation goes to charity, less any payment processing fees which The Bono Way Charitable Foundation pays to our payment processor, Stripe. In the future, we plan to offer donors the option to add additional amounts in order to cover these fees.

I work for a 501(c)3 charity and would like to receive funding from Bono. How do I get started?

We’d like to hear from you! Our team has selected and vetted a set of charities for each of our causes, but we’re always open to hearing about new charities. Please fill out this form and our team will reach out if your charity is selected to receive funding. Charities must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

I love the Bono model. How can I help promote Bono among our donors?

It’s easy! We have easy-to-use templates for social media posts, email newsletters, and websites to help you encourage more donors to give through Bono. Contact us to learn more - support@bono.so.

I work for a charity listed on your website and I have questions about Bono’s grant process.

Bono sends monthly grant distributions to the charities that have been selected and vetted by our impact team of experts along with external philanthropists, foundations, and charity advisors. If you have questions about our process, please contact us at support@bono.so.

What's the deal with the note about the charity's impact being for illustrative purposes only?

Good question and thanks for reading the fine print! We want to give our charities the flexibility to use donations towards the area of greatest need. We chose a simple and realistic example of how your donation will likely be spent. The reality is your donation supports a whole lot more, but all that good impact doesn't easily fit on a tiny phone screen. So our team of internal experts and external advisors developed these impact measurements, and we've chosen the best examples to show you how your donation is making a difference one tree, one meal, one care package at a time!

Can I recommend a new cause to add to Bono’s list of causes?

Absolutely! We’re interested to hear about the causes that matter most to our donors and charities. Please reach out at support@bono.so.

How does Bono support charities?

All donations received, less any processing fees, are donated directly to the charities that have been selected by the Bono Impact Team (read below for more details about the selection process).

Bono also handles all the administrative responsibilities of processing gifts, issuing tax receipts, sending thank you letters, and sending impact reports to donors. This helps free up the charity’s time to focus on fulfilling its programs rather than processing thousands of donations directly.

Charities also benefit from marketing and social media boosts from Bono’s platform which encourages donors to share, post, and promote their monthly giving causes and charities.

I work for a charity listed on your website. Can I find out who the donors are that gave to our cause?

Our donors value their privacy and we never share their personal information. We understand that some charities would like to reach out to donors directly, but our research shows that Bono donors love knowing they are supporting the causes they care about, without having to manage emails and outreach from multiple charities.

Our hope is that every charity that receives funding from Bono supporters will enjoy receiving additional contributions without any of the time-consuming responsibilities of processing donations and sending thank you letters. At Bono, we handle all the administrative work for both the donor and the charity!

I work in the philanthropy sector and would like to partner with Bono. How can I get started?

We’d love to hear from you! Maybe you’re a philanthropy advisor, corporate philanthropy executive, financial advisor, or foundation officer–there are many ways we can work together to increase philanthropy and make giving more accessible for everyone. Let’s talk! support@bono.so.

Does Bono donate funds to individuals, too?

Bono only grants funding to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. We do not grant to individuals, but wish you the best in whatever you’re seeking!

Are donations tax deductible?

The full 100% of user donations are included in a single yearly tax-deductible donation receipt provided by Bono. Donations are processed by the Bono Way Charitable Foundation which has received a 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS.

Who picks the charities?

Bono works closely with foundations, philanthropists, creators and other professionals to suggest charities. We also have our own Impact team of experts who meticulously hand-picked the charities that are shown to make the most significant impact. With hundreds of worthy initiatives out there, our dedicated team continually updates our charity list to ensure a diverse range of organizations benefit from Bono. Our goal is to strike a balance between supporting established, well-known charities and championing smaller ones that, despite their impactful work, might not have the resources or marketing budget to gain widespread attention.

Is Bono a charitable organization?

The Bono Way Charitable Foundation is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. If you are a U.S. taxpayer, the Bono Way Charitable Foundation will issue you a receipt at the end of the tax year indicating that your contribution is fully tax deductible. The Bono Way Inc is a for-profit company, that provides the tech platform for the Bono Foundation, through a licensing agreement.
